(
HELP International) was initially founded to send medical supplies to impoverished countries throughout the world. In the first five years of operation, HELP has sent medical supplies and humanitarian aid to 56 countries around the world. Last year they experienced 1200% growth in durable goods shipped, $3.7M.
I met the founder whose name is Jene Wilson because a HELP volunteer visited my mom's office at the healthclub. I went and saw the operation and it was really amazing. It went from Jene's garage 5 years ago to a warehouse full of life and full of stuff ready to send. Jene said that whenever they get a new project its amazing how God provides and all that is needed gets donated.
I talked with Andrew Sesay the pastor we are joining in Sierra Leone and he sent us a list of things that are needed. The list includes things like school supplies, medical supplies, and duct tape :). Brittany and I feel that this is an opportunity for us to help out in Sierra Leone right away. Its going to take some time for us to get adjusted and find out where and how we fit and so having something to get started working towards is a real blessing to us.
Danielle and Darlene Meeker, two of our best friends, just graduated from CSU and are staying around in Fort Collins. So while we raise the money for the shipping costs and compile donations of all the things that we will ship (including a couple boxes of our own stuff :), they are going to be our liasons helping to keep the ball rolling.
If you want to directly help this is an amazing way to do it. Gene said that if customs dont get in the way sending a shipment would probably cost around $5000. We hope to ship upwards of $50,000 worth of needed donations.
We also want to send equipment to start a sound studio where Andrew and others can record thier music and reach people in Sierra Leone that way. So be praying that we can get some sound boards, speakers, guitars, etc... donated as well.
We are grateful to share all of this with you and Brittany and I just want to say thanks !
